Policy roadmap from the TUM-IAS workshop (March 2026): executive summaries

It is a privilege to introduce this Executive Summary of the Policy Roadmap emerging from the pivotal workshop on Supercomputers, Artificial Intelligence and Europe’s Technological Sovereignty, co-initiated by EASA President Mainzer and hosted by the TUM Institute for Advanced Study and its director Michael Molls as EASA member in March 2026. The full Policy Roadmap has been published by the Technical University of Munich, edited by Professors Michael Molls, Klaus Mainzer, Arndt Bode, and Dr. Ulrich Marsch. This document distills the workshop’s core proposals into an actionable framework. It is more than a strategic outline for technological infrastructure; it is a philosophical manifesto for Europe’s digital future. The proposals are not merely responses to economic or geopolitical competition but are, at their core, a reaffirmation of the humanistic principles that must guide the digital age. We present this Executive Summary in the Journal Proceedings of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (PEASA) with the conviction that technology, in its most profound sense, serves human dignity and stewards our shared future.
